A Historic First for the UK
The Società Amatori Cane Corso is an association of breeders and dog lovers founded on October 18, 1983, with the goal of recovering and safeguarding this splendid Italian breed. The efforts and passion for research and selection of its first founding members led to the recognition of the Italian Cane Corso as the 14th Italian Breed on January 20, 1994.
Today the SACC is a specialized association of the Italian National Kennel Club (ENCI) entrusted with the official protection of the breed and its aims are the study, valorization, genetic improvement of populations, increase and use of the Cane Corso.
British Cane Corso Society Enters Formal Affiliation Dialogue with Italy’s Società Amatori Cane Corso.
The British Cane Corso Society is proud to announce a landmark development for the breed in the United Kingdom: the formal recognition of affiliation, dialogue, and collaboration by the Società Amatori Cane Corso, the official custodians of the Cane Corso in its country of origin. This is the first time a British Cane Corso organisation has been acknowledged at this level by the Italian parent body. It represents a significant step forward for the breed in the UK, strengthening ethical stewardship and reinforcing international cooperation built on shared values.
In a recent written communication, the Board of Directors of the Società Amatori Cane Corso expressed their appreciation for the British Cane Corso Society’s vision and objectives. It renewed commitment to unity, transparency, and responsible representation of the breed. They confirmed their readiness to offer collaboration and support to the British Cane Corso Society, in full accordance with Article 2 of their Statute.
This recognition reflects a growing alignment between serious and responsible organisations working toward the same goal: the protection, correct representation, and long-term welfare of the Cane Corso.
The correspondence further emphasised the importance of constructive dialogue and joint work between credible breed organisations as an essential means of strengthening the Cane Corso internationally. It acknowledged that cooperation, rather than division, is vital to safeguarding the breed’s future and ensuring that its heritage, function, and identity are preserved without compromise.
As part of this developing relationship, the Società Amatori Cane Corso also expressed their hope to meet in person to explore areas and methods of collaboration further. Proposed opportunities include the World Dog Show 2026 in Bologna and the Raduno dell’Anno 2026 in Anagni, providing an important platform for continued dialogue at the highest level of the breed.
For the British Cane Corso Society, this development represents more than recognition. It is a validation of a clear direction and a principled stance. It confirms that integrity, openness, and breed-first leadership are not only necessary but respected beyond national borders.
This affiliation dialogue signals a new chapter for the Cane Corso in the United Kingdom. One built on cooperation rather than conflict, education rather than confusion, and long-term preservation rather than short-term trends.
The British Cane Corso Society remains committed to working transparently, responsibly, and collaboratively, confident that shared effort between aligned organisations can bring tangible benefits to the Cane Corso and to the wider canine community.
This is history in the making. And it has only just begun.
