The British Cane Corso Society (BCCS) stud book and registration rules outline the criteria, process, and documentation required to register a Cane Corso in the UK. This ensures pedigree integrity and supports breed standards.

1. Purpose of the Register
1.1 The British Cane Corso Society Stud Book and Litter Register (“the Register”) exists to preserve pedigree information, promote transparency, track health data, and support the responsible development of the Cane Corso in the United Kingdom.
1.2 The Register is voluntary and open to current Society members.
1.3 Registration with the Society does not imply recognition by the Royal Kennel Club (RKC) or any other kennel club authority.
2. Eligibility for Registration
2.1 Registration is open to Cane Corsos bred, imported, or owned within the United Kingdom.
2.2 Dogs must be pure-bred Cane Corsos to the best knowledge and honest declaration of the applicant.
2.3 Supporting documentation may be required, including:

FCI or recognised overseas kennel club pedigrees

Breeder declarations
-
DNA verification, where available
2.4 The Committee reserves the right to refuse registration where parentage, identity, or eligibility cannot be reasonably confirmed.
3. Types of Registration
The Register records the following categories:
3.1 Individual Dog Registration
For dogs bred, imported, or acquired within the UK.
3.2 Litter Registration
Registration of a full litter from a named sire and dam.
3.3 Imported Registration
Recognition of pedigrees issued by overseas authorities recognised by the FCI or national kennel clubs.
3.4 Supplementary Registration
For dogs where parentage is partially known or documented, subject to Committee review and acceptance.
4. Required Information
Applicants must provide:

Registered or known name of the dog

Date of birth

Sex
-
Microchip number (recommended; mandatory from 2027 onward)

Sire and dam details (registration numbers where available)

Breeder and owner name

Country of origin and pedigree source (if imported)
Optional but encouraged information:

Colour
-
Health testing results (e.g., hip, elbow, DRSA or other relevant tests)

Litter size
-
Temperament notes
-
Breeder tier status
5. Accuracy & Verification
5.1 Registration relies on the honest declaration of the applicant.
5.2 The Society may request:

Copies of pedigrees or health results
-
Confirmation from breeder or stud owner
-
DNA verification where inconsistencies arise
5.3 Deliberate misrepresentation may result in:

Removal from the Register
-
Disciplinary action
-
Suspension or termination of Society membership
6. Stud Book Identification
6.1 Each registered dog will be assigned a unique Society registration number.
6.2 Litter registration numbers may also be assigned (one per litter).
6.3 Pedigree certificates may be issued to owners; however, all certificates remain the intellectual property of the Society.
7. Publication of Information
7.1 The Society may publish limited registration details, including:

Dog name

Sire and dam
-
Year of birth
-
Breeder name
-
Breeder tier level (where applicable)
7.2 Personal owner contact details will not be published without explicit consent.
8. Corrections & Amendments
8.1 Owners may request corrections to clerical errors.
8.2 Changes of ownership, contact details, or dog status should be notified promptly.
8.3 The Society may annotate records (without deleting historical data) where:

Pedigree errors are discovered

Health issues become known
-
DNA testing reveals incorrect parentage
Annotations protect the integrity and historical accuracy of the Register.
9. Fees
9.1 The Committee may set reasonable fees for registrations, certificates, or reprints.
9.2 Fees will be published separately and reviewed periodically.
10. Data Protection
10.1 Personal data will be stored securely and handled in accordance with the Society’s Privacy Policy and applicable UK data protection legislation.
10.2 Ownership and contact information will remain confidential unless explicit consent is provided.
11. Governance & Administration
11.1 The Committee shall appoint a Stud Book Registrar, who may be a Committee Member or an ordinary member of the Society.
11.2 Disputes or unclear eligibility cases shall be determined by the Committee.
11.3 Appeals will follow the Society’s established disciplinary process.
12. Transition to Kennel Club Recognition
12.1 Should the Cane Corso obtain Royal Kennel Club recognition in the future, the Society may:

Assist the Kennel Club in verifying pedigrees

Provide stud book data where legally permitted
-
Archive or discontinue the Register as appropriate
12.2 Registered dogs may be eligible for Kennel Club foundation registration depending on the rules in force at that time.
