Dog Training

At the British Cane Corso Society, one of our biggest priorities is helping owners access the correct training advice and guidance for the Cane Corso breed.

These dogs are intelligent, powerful, emotionally sensitive guardian breeds that require clear structure, proper socialisation, and responsible handling from an early age. Good training can completely shape the future of a dog, which is why we are incredibly pleased to announce our collaboration with Pharaoh’s Guidance.

Pharaoh’s Guidance is led by UK trainer Agnes, whose experience working with guardian breeds and behavioural rehabilitation makes her a fantastic fit for what we are trying to achieve as a society.

What does the breed excel at?

Since childhood, dogs have been more than just companions; they have been my lifeblood. I still vividly recall the joy of my first dog, a Dalmatian, and the profound sense of responsibility that arrived with her. Handed a stack of training books and told she was my charge, I spent countless hours observing, learning, and building the foundations that would eventually shape my entire career.

This early dedication evolved into a rigorous professional journey. I have since formalised my expertise through a mentorship programme led by some of the country’s leading trainers, Liam McArthur (LM-K9) and Melissa Isidoro (Paws-a-Minute). My pursuit of knowledge has seen me complete various courses and attend seminars led by global industry authorities such as Michael Ellis, Larry Krohn, Stephanie Vichinsky, Hans Verbruggen, Dr Melanie Uhde, Tom Davis, Will Atherton, and Nino Drowaert, among others.

I have worked with a vast range of dogs and rescues, always seeking to refine my skills and master the nuances of canine behaviour. My fascination with the Cane Corso began at the age of eight when a single image in a breed book sparked a lifelong ambition. For years, I dedicated myself to researching the breed and understanding its nuances, waiting for the precise moment when my handling skills, environment, and lifestyle could truly do justice to a dog of such presence and requirement. I wasn’t just looking for a pet, I was looking for a working dog, therefore I had to have the capacity to meet the breed’s specific needs.

However, the reality of my first Corso was far from the dream I had originally imagined. Born with genetic handler aggression, he pushed me into the deepest of ends, upending every expectation. It is often said that you don’t get the dog you wanted, but the dog you needed. Looking back, I am profoundly grateful for that challenge. He provided an education that no course or mentorship could replicate, teaching me more about canine psychology, behaviour, and most importantly a relationship than any textbook ever could.

Beyond the technical skill, this experience cultivated a level of empathy and compassion that is now the cornerstone of my work at Pharaoh’s Guidance. Living through the complexities of a difficult dog allows me to connect with owners on a level that purely academic training cannot reach. I understand the weight of the struggle because I have lived it.

Despite early scepticism from those who saw his struggles during his formative months, he has proven the power of consistent, clear guidance. Today, he serves as my lead demo dog, assisting in the rehabilitation of others and helping train my clients and other trainers. Our journey reached a significant milestone in 2025 when we stepped onto the trial field together to earn our BH title at AVD e.V. - a testament to the fact that with clarity and commitment, even the most challenging beginnings can lead to exceptional outcomes.

My passion has never been more fulfilling; my love, respect and admiration for dogs has never been higher; and my determination to help others navigate their own journeys to cement lasting harmony with their dogs is stronger than ever before.
