British Cane Corso Society Launches the UK Cane Corso Census 2026

The British Cane Corso Society is pleased to announce the launch of the UK Cane Corso Census 2026, an anonymous owner-led survey designed to help build a clearer and more accurate picture of the Cane Corso population in the United Kingdom.

The census will run for three months, from 10th July to 10th October 2026.

The Cane Corso is a growing breed in the UK, but at present there is no single reliable source showing how many Cane Corso are living here, where they are broadly located, how they are registered, or what the UK population looks like in terms of age, sex, origin, and ownership context.

The purpose of this census is to gather useful population-level information that can support future breed education, welfare planning, health discussions, research, and evidence-based decision making.

Who should take part?

We are inviting anyone in the United Kingdom who owns, co-owns, fosters, rescues, or breeds Cane Corso to complete the census.

This includes Cane Corso kept as family companions, dogs retained by breeders, imported Cane Corso, rescue or rehomed Cane Corso, dogs with full pedigree paperwork, dogs registered with other organisations, and Cane Corso without paperwork or with unknown backgrounds.

Every response helps us build a better picture of the breed in the UK.

Why is the census important?

For any breed to be properly supported, it is important to understand the population behind it.

The UK Cane Corso Census will help provide a clearer estimate of the number of Cane Corso currently living in the UK. It will also help identify broad trends relating to regional distribution, registration status, importation, age, sex, and ownership context. This information may support future work around responsible ownership, breed education, health awareness, welfare planning, pedigree development, and future breed research.

The census is not intended to judge individual owners, breeders, rescues, households, or dogs. It is not a test, inspection, or registration application. It is an anonymous research and population-estimation exercise designed to help the Cane Corso community move forward with clearer evidence.

How will the information be used?

The findings will be reviewed and summarised by the British Cane Corso Society.

Relevant findings will be anonymised and may be made available to the Cane Corso Breed Council for use in breed, research, health and welfare decisions.

Only grouped, anonymised findings will be shared or published. No personal information about individual owners, households, breeders, rescue homes, or dogs will be published.

The results may also help the British Cane Corso Society develop future educational resources, welfare guidance, health initiatives, and breed development work.

Privacy and anonymity

The survey is anonymous. Participants are not asked to provide their name, email address, phone number, full address, kennel name, microchip number, or any other direct personal identifier.

Because we are not collecting email addresses or other identifying information, we will not be able to identify individual responses after submission. This means participants will not be able to withdraw their individual data once the survey has been submitted, as there will be no reliable way to locate which response belongs to which person.

Participants are asked not to include names, contact details, full addresses, kennel names, microchip numbers, or other identifying information in any free-text answers.

No personal information will be published.

Research, Data and Privacy Note

The census is intended to build a broader descriptive picture of the UK Cane Corso population from information voluntarily supplied by participants. The results will therefore reflect the responses received and should not be treated as a complete count of every Cane Corso in the United Kingdom or as a statistically representative sample unless the final methodology supports that conclusion.

Participants should follow the privacy information provided with the census form and avoid entering personal identifiers in free-text responses unless specifically requested. Because anonymous responses cannot normally be linked back to an individual respondent, it may not be possible to identify and withdraw a particular submission after it has been sent.
