The Innate Health Assessment (IHA) is a relatively new welfare tool designed to help identify visible conformational traits that can compromise a dog’s ability to function normally. Developed through the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Animal Welfare (APGAW), with the innate-health concept informed by research led by Professor Dan O’Neill at the Royal Veterinary College, the IHA applies across breeds rather than targeting a single type of dog.
